How to soft boil an egg

Steps on how to soft boil an egg

Step 1:
Make sure first that the egg is at room temperature. If it came from the fridge, let it set for some time until it is at room temp.

Step 2:
Using a small pin, poke a hole very gently into the top of the egg. This would let any air inside the egg to escape to reduce its chance of cracking.

Step 3:
Put the egg in a pot or pan of cold water. You would want the water to completely cover the egg.

Step 4:
Turn on the heat to the highest level in order to quickly bring the water into a boil. When the water is already boiling, turn down the heat, and let it simmer for 3 minutes.

Step 5:
Take the soft boiled egg out of your pot after simmering, put it in your egg cup, crack the top off, and then serve. Enjoy your perfect soft boiled egg!

Tips:
  • When boiling the egg, make sure that it does not bounce too much at the bottom of your pot or pan to avoid cracking. If it does bounce, lower the temperature down.
  • You can add a pinch of salt into your soft boiled egg to flavor.
